Sewerage

The sewerage may be the least visible part of a design, but it should certainly not be underestimated. In order to be effective, a sewerage design has to be implemented within the regulations in force while preventing flooding.

Macobo designs separate and semi-separate systems and takes into account the constraints and technical quality requirements imposed on the wastewater operations manager. The sewage network is considered in its entirety, and all the sewer lines are attuned. Moreover, our services also include the design of ancillary sewerage structures, such as bridges, pumping stations and overflows.

In addition, since building regulations also require houses to separate rain and wastewater when laying an independent sewerage, sewerage operators as well as homeowners may be baffled by the idea of such disconnection. Macobo can be contracted to coordinate this smoothly and efficiently. As VLARIO-accredited disconnection consultants, we always look for solutions within the legal framework which are technically, socially and economically acceptable for the sewerage operators and residents.

    Hooyberghs, a subsidiary of B&R Bouwgroep, is building 84 social housing units in Aarschot. The project consists of a mix of apartments and homes and is called Ter Heide because of its location. The construction will take place in two phases and came about based on a CBO procedure, an initiative of VMSW aimed at the creation of social housing by project developers.
    2DVW Architects is responsible for the design of the buildings and Macobo takes care of the studies on stability, techniques, EPB reporting, and safety coordination. The design of the environmental planning with associated road connections and sewers is also provided by Macobo.

  • Westmeerbeek, La Corbeille SME, industrial and retail zone
    Macobo Referentie Westmeerbeek, La Corbeille kmo-, industrie- en retailzone

    Macobo has been contracted by developer Tervia’s bvba to design the infrastructure for the whole La Corbeille domain which will see the development of a combined SME, industrial and retail zone. The site (14 ha) of the former cannery is getting a contemporary look. The durable and practically maintenance-free design includes the roads, the parking and loading areas and green spaces. The sewerage and construction of an infiltration system based on water permeable paving and a buffer system (wadi) are part of the contract.

  • Borgloon, reconstruction of Sittardstraat and Guldenbodemlaan

    Macobo was contracted by the City of Borgloon, AWV Limburg and Aquafin to reconstruct the Sittardstraat and Guldenbodemlaan in accordance with the existing mobility plan. The two streets were developed as type 1 connecting roads whose main function is to connect at local and inter-local level. The road safety and quality of the experience of all road users and users of the surroundings were paramount in our design.

  • Tongeren, refurbishment of Neremsplein and Mal-Sluizen village centres

    Macobo was contracted by Aquafin to examine the feasibility of disconnecting the existing sewage discharges and building a carrier drain. The City of Tongeren used this intervention to rehabilitate the existing village centres by renewing and beautifying the road infrastructure within the built-up area and by constructing paved footpaths and cycle tracks along the way. This project involved the complete refurbishment of the Neremsplein and dead ends branching out from it. The design aimed to restore and strengthen the square’s function, including a stop-and-rest area along the cycleway.

  • Heers, renovation of N743
    Macobo Referentie Heers, Renovatie fietspad N743

    Commissioned by the Municipality of Heers, AWV Limburg, Infrax and the City of Tongeren, Macobo designed a cycleway along the N743, which is part of the functional cycle network. The N743 starts from the N3 and is an interesting route for cyclists to and from the centre in the direction of Mechelen-Bovelingen and Rukkelingen-Loon. The safety of vulnerable road users and cycling tourists was also increased in the design.

  • Heist-op-den-Berg, 45 council flats

    Commissioned by VMSW (the Flemish Society for Social Housing) and in collaboration with architects’ firm Archiles, we are working on various designs: special systems, EPBD, structural engineering and landscaping. More specifically, the special systems analyses includes HVAC, plumbing, electrical wiring, lighting, renewable energies and heat loss calculation.

  • Putte, refurbishment of the town square

    The contract awarded by the Municipality of Putte involved giving the town square a sustainable role. The town hall, a school and a building accommodating the youth organisation are all situated nearby. Parking spaces and access had to be planned for these functions. The town square also had to be able to fulfil its function as a plaza for events and festivities. The town square is used by cyclists/pedestrians and cars as a shortcut to the Waverlei area. Because of this, a solution was offered that would ensure the safety of every road user.

    The square had to become an active public space with an urban character. The geographic relief was restored and steps were developed in the natural slope to create an amphitheatre-like space. The amphitheatre was illuminated, using discreet LED lighting in each step and the necessary landscaping ensured the desired picture quality. The existing pavement around the amphitheatre was removed and replaced by natural paving, laid out in a diamond pattern.

    Macobo redesigned the Otterbeek district for VMSW (the Flemish Society for Social Housing). In addition to the design, we monitored the entire landscaping works: squares, car parks, green areas, sports fields, playgrounds and streets. It is a clearly defined district which comprises four different entities, each with its own structure. Our design took into account the fact that each entity has its own housing types.
